Drive Against Traffic, Forfeit Your vehicle, Lagos Warns Motorists

The Lagos State Government, through its Special Offences (Mobile) Court, is taking a firm stance on enforcing traffic laws in the state.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, represented by the Director for Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Dr. Babajide Martins, emphasized this during a one-day sensitization program organized by the Mobile Court with the theme “Zero Tolerance for Violation of Traffic Laws at Bolade, Oshodi, Lagos.”

The coordinator of the Mobile Court, Arinola Banjoko, highlighted the consequences of violating traffic laws in Lagos, particularly the penalty for one-way driving, which is forfeiture. She emphasized that under the State Transport law of 2018, there is no fine for driving against traffic (one-way).

The sensitization program is in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda of the Lagos State government, which focuses on fulfilling promises related to transportation and traffic management. The government has reiterated its commitment to enforcing a zero-tolerance policy for traffic offenses, including driving in a direction prohibited by law (one-way), using the designated Bus Rapid Transit corridor, and obstructing vehicular movement on the highway, among other violations.

The Attorney General encouraged road users to collaborate with the state government in addressing traffic challenges and ensuring the smooth flow of traffic on the highway. This statement underlines the government’s determination to maintain order and safety on the roads and serves as a warning to motorists that they should adhere to traffic laws or face the legal consequences of their actions.
