Rabi’u Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party in the 2023 elections, offered some valuable advice to couples participating in the mass wedding scheme initiated by the state government.

 Speaking at the reception held for these couples at the Government House in Kano State, Kwankwaso cautioned against the potentially detrimental act of checking one’s spouse’s phone, emphasizing that it often leads to marital discord and breakups. He encouraged the newlyweds to avoid actions that could trigger crises in their relationships.

Kwankwaso highlighted the multitude of advice these couples have likely received from religious scholars, parents, relatives, and well-wishers on how to lead harmonious lives as married individuals. However, he underscored the significance of avoiding intrusion into each other’s digital privacy, asserting that it remains a key contributor to the dissolution of marriages.

The former governor of Kano State commended the current governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for continuing vital legacies such as the mass wedding program. He also praised Yusuf’s commitment to implementing projects that benefit the masses and called on the people of Kano to support his administration.

Governor Abba Yusuf revealed that the beneficiaries of the mass wedding program were carefully chosen from all 44 Local Government Areas and the 484 wards within the state. The government took full responsibility for the weddings, including dowry payments, provision of furniture, wedding supplies, and a 20,000 Naira grant to help brides establish small-scale businesses from the comfort of their matrimonial homes. He urged the couples to lead peaceful lives in accordance with Islamic teachings.

Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, the Commander General of the Kano Hisbah Board, noted that a significant number of couples, approximately 1,500, had celebrated their unions on the previous day. However, the weddings of 264 couples had to be postponed as they had tested positive for certain ailments and were undergoing medical treatment. Daurawa assured that once they recovered, a new wedding date would be set. He lauded the transparent and due process followed in organizing the mass weddings and commended the state government for its support.

Daurawa concluded by offering prayers for the newlyweds, wishing them enduring marital happiness, and advising them to uphold the fear of God in their interactions with one another. The mass wedding scheme not only symbolizes a commitment to tradition and community values but also highlights the importance of privacy and trust in maintaining successful marriages.
