Makinde to Alaafin Princes: “stop bickering over selection; Alaafin stool not for highest bidder.”

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has counseled natives and princes vying for the Alaafin of Oyo stool to put aside their arguments and agree to let someone else take the throne.
The Alaafin of Oyo stool will not be awarded to the highest bidder, Makinde insisted.
The governor made a speech on Friday during the 34.85-kilometer Oyo-Iseyin Road’s commissioning.
The transfer of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who joined his ancestors in April 2022, left the Alaafin of Oyo stool empty.
But Makinde has issued a warning, saying that anyone attempting to sell the monarchy will ultimately meet their demise.
The governor, speaking to the town’s citizens, urged the princes and other interested parties to put an end to their arguments on who should be the next ruler.
Makinde went on to say that his administration has kept its word to the state’s citizens.
The road is an important project that will open up regions of the state, he continued
“I call on princes and interested parties in Oyo to stop bickering over the selection of a new Alaafin of Oyo.
“The respected stool would not go to the highest bidder and anyone with intent to sell the throne would meet his waterloo,” he said.
He added, “It gives me great joy to be here today as we commission one of the key projects that will open Oyo and Oke-Ogun zones to further investments and economic stimulation.
“The people who used to avoid going to Oyo through the Oyo-Iseyin road or to Iseyin through the Moniya-Iseyin road know what we are doing and what we have done.
“Commuters and businesses located in these areas know that they are cost-saving and they know that it is impacting.”
