The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed as fake and unauthorized the various results circulating on social media claiming to be the outcome of its nationwide primaries, warning members and the public against relying on unofficial announcements.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC said the authentic results of the primaries conducted across the country on May 28 and 29 remain under the custody of the National Executive Council (NEC), which alone possesses the authority to announce the outcome.
The development comes amid heightened political tension and growing speculation over the identities of candidates who will fly the party’s flag in the 2027 elections.
“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress,” the statement read.
According to the party, all results have been submitted to the NEC for review and ratification, stressing that no individual or group has been authorized to release the outcome of the exercise.
“The results of the primaries are with the National Executive Council of our great party. They are solely responsible for announcements of results,” the statement added.
In what appears to be a move to address growing anxiety within party ranks, the NDC also announced an emergency gathering of its highest decision-making organ following directives from the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson.
The party disclosed that a pre-NEC meeting has been scheduled for June 2 in Abuja, while the main NEC meeting will hold on June 3, where critical decisions regarding the primaries are expected to be taken.
“On the order of the National Leader of our party, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Seriake Dickson, a NEC meeting of the party has been called,” Osa Director stated.
He directed all NEC members to arrive in Abuja ahead of the meetings, signaling what insiders describe as a crucial gathering that could shape the party’s electoral strategy ahead of the next general elections.
The NDC further assured stakeholders that the official results would be made public at the appropriate time, particularly after the party concludes the process of forwarding the names of its successful candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The general public and stakeholders will be availed of the results of our primaries when we send the list of candidates to fly our party’s flag to INEC,” the statement said.
The denial of the viral results is expected to fuel fresh political intrigue within the opposition party, as aspirants and supporters await the official verdict from the NEC amid intense lobbying and behind-the-scenes consultations.
With Abuja now set to host a decisive NEC showdown, attention has shifted to the party leadership as members await the announcement that will determine the NDC’s standard-bearers for the crucial 2027 electoral contest.
