Ex-Foreign Minister Tuggar Joins Bauchi Governorship Race

Nigeria’s 2027 election race is gathering pace as former Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has purchased the ₦50 million governorship nomination form of the All Progressives Congress to contest in Bauchi State.

Tuggar formalised his bid on Wednesday, with a video showing party officials presenting him with the form at the APC secretariat.

The former minister, who resigned his cabinet position in March in line with directives from Bola Tinubu, said his ambition is aimed at strengthening internal democracy within the party.

Describing his candidacy as a “collective mission,” Tuggar pledged to support whoever emerges as the party’s flagbearer and ruled out post-primary litigation.

He said his campaign would focus on tackling key challenges in Bauchi, including poverty, unemployment, insecurity, and gaps in education and healthcare.

Tuggar also outlined plans to boost agriculture, support small businesses, develop solid minerals, improve security, and ensure prompt salary payments if elected.
