Police Arraign Driver Over Fatal Crash Involving Anthony Joshua

• Charged With Dangerous Driving Causing Death, Driving Without Valid National Driver’s Licence, Others
• Granted ₦5m Bail With Two Sureties, Case Adjourned To January 20

The Ogun State Police have arraigned Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, driver of a Lexus SUV involved in a deadly accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway that claimed two lives. The incident had earlier sparked false reports linking former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua to the crash.

Some of the charges levelled against Kayode include dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, causing bodily harm, and driving without a valid license.

After his arraignment, the Sagamu Magistrate Court granted him ₦5 million bail with two sureties and adjourned the case to January 20, 2026.

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, Ogun State Police PRO, confirmed that investigations have concluded and assured that the matter will be prosecuted according to the law.

“Update: The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (male), aged 46, was charged to the Sagamu Magistrate Court today, 2nd January, 2026 and the case has been adjourned to 20th January, 2026,” Babaseyi wrote.

TheMatrix Newspaper reports that last Monday, the Lexus Jeep conveying Joshua, a former world heavyweight boxing champion, and two of his close associates crashed into a stationary truck around the Sinoma area near Sagamu, Ogun state.

The former boxing champion and three other passengers were reportedly travelling from Lagos to Sagamu when the SUV they were in collided with a stationary truck.

While Joshua survived the incident with minor injuries, his close associates — Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami both died.

Joshua has since been discharged from the hospital.
