2027 General Election: No Timetable Released Yet – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked claims circulating in some quarters that it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.

In a statement signed by Adedayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman on Friday, January 2, 2026, the Commission described the reports as “false and misleading,” stressing that no such timetable has been issued.

INEC emphasized that it operates strictly within the provisions of the law, citing Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which mandates the Commission to publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the appointed date for a general election. Any timetable released outside this statutory framework, the Commission noted, cannot originate from INEC.

“The Commission wishes to state clearly that this information is false and misleading. INEC has not released any timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election” the statement noted.

Reassuring Nigerians, INEC stated that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 polls will be unveiled in due course, in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and the Electoral Act, 2022. The Commission added that when the timetable is ready, it will be communicated exclusively through its verified platforms.

INEC urged the public and media organizations to disregard the fake reports and rely only on official channels for accurate and authoritative updates.

“The public and the media are urged to disregard the fake reports and always rely on information from INEC’s official platforms for accurate and authoritative updates” it added.
