Kanu Files Fresh Motion, Demands Transfer Closer To Abuja

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to order his transfer from Sokoto prison, arguing that his distant detention is obstructing his ability to file an appeal against his life sentence.

In a motion ex parte he personally signed, Kanu said being held over 700km from Abuja makes it impossible to prepare his notice and record of appeal, especially as he currently has no legal representation. He requested a transfer to a facility near Abuja such as Suleja or Keffi—to enable access to court registries, relatives, and consultants.

However, when the matter came up, Justice James Omotosho refused to hear the application because Kanu’s brother, Emmanuel, who presented it, is not a lawyer. 

The judge advised that only a qualified legal practitioner can move the motion and cautioned against public misinformation regarding Kanu’s appeal process. The case was adjourned to December 8.
