The Federal Government has cautioned health workers and warehouse managers at both the Federal and State levels against diverting or mismanaging medical supplies intended for public use.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, gave the warning at the recent flag-off of the nationwide distribution of medical supplies to Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across all 774 Local Government Areas, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to revitalise Nigeria’s healthcare system.
At the ceremony, Pate warned, “These commodities must serve the interest of the Nigerian people. We will carry out periodic evaluations of their distribution and utilisation to ensure accountability and transparency.
He reiterated that health is everybody’s business, urging Nigerians to protect their PHCs and support frontline health workers who are vital to community wellbeing.
The distribution covers 774 PHCs nationwide — one per LGA, ensuring equitable access to essential medical commodities. In addition, the Federal Government announced further investments, including: $3 million worth of new equipment for at least 200 newly renovated PHCs in 2025, $12 million worth of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) commodities and supplies, including family planning commodities, to expand access to quality care.
This initiative, coordinated by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, reflects government’s determination to strengthen PHCs as the first point of care for Nigerians.
“This renewed investment is a clear sign of our commitment to reform, transparency, and accountability in the health sector. Nigerians deserve reliable, accessible, and quality healthcare starting from the grassroots,” Prof. Pate affirmed.
The Federal Government emphasised that the fight for better health outcomes is inseparable from the demand for accountability and reform, ensuring that public resources truly serve the Nigerian people.
