Nigeria No Longer In ‘Jeopardy Zone’ Of Insecurity — Presidential Aide

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Communication, Sunday Dare, says Nigeria has made significant progress in tackling insecurity and is no longer in what he described as the nation’s former “jeopardy zone.”

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, Dare acknowledged lingering challenges but insisted security has improved compared to the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency and the Sambisa crisis.

“We have seen improvement in the issue of security; I think we have left the jeopardy zone,” he said, urging Nigerians to assess progress within a broader historical context.

Dare admitted that reports of killings and human rights abuses persist, citing National Human Rights Commission data, but maintained that institutions are stronger and responses to flashpoints more effective.

Analysts on the programme, however, questioned the government’s claims, pointing to a nearly 10% month-on-month rise in documented abuses and arguing that Nigerians’ lived experiences suggest otherwise.
