After One Year, UK Police Relaunch Appeal On Asake Concert Deaths

In response to the unfortunate deaths of many Afrobeat lovers during a performance hosted by Nigerian artist Asake, the authorities in the United Kingdom have reopened their appeal.

The “Lonely At The Top” crooner’s December 15, 2022, performance at the O2 Brixton Academy in the UK was marred by the deaths of Rebecca Ikumelo, a 33-year-old mother of two, and Gaby Hutchinson, a 23-year-old security guard. Fans who did not have tickets attempted to force their way into the concert, resulting in a stampede that left both women fatally injured.

A 22-year-old female victim of the incident is still hospitalized a year after it happened in a bad state, according to Evening Standard.

As a result, the police released images of 13 individuals they sought to identify in connection with the deadly crush in its efforts to solve the tragic incident at the O2 Academy Brixton a year ago.

Detective Chief Inspector Nigel Penney emphasized the ongoing focus on unravelling the details surrounding the incident and expressed gratitude for the support received thus far. He urged the identified individuals to come forward, highlighting their potential possession of crucial information.
