Investors Lose ₦152bn As Equities Market Records First Loss In 2025

The Nigerian equities market recorded the first loss in 2025 on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, as investors lost N152 billion on the trading floor of the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) .

This follows a dip in the share prices of stocks like  VERITASKAP, FTNCOCOA, and RTBRISCOE amongst others on the trading floor.

After five hours of trading at the capital market, the equity capitalization fell to ₦63.051 billion from ₦63.203 trillion which was recorded by the bourse on the previous trading.

 The benchmark All-Share Index (ASI) decreased to 103,398.82 from 103,648.24 which was recorded on Monday.

The market breadth was negative as 19 stocks advanced and 49 stocks declined, while 55 stocks remained unchanged in 16,617 deals.

PZ, ABBEYBDS, and LEARNAFRCA led other gainers with 10%, 10% and 9.90% growth each in prices to close at N27.50, N3.63 and N5.44 from the previous N25.00, N3.30 and N4.95 per share.

VERITASKAP, FTNCOCOA, and RTBRISCOE led other price decliners with 10% decline each in share prices to close at N1.53, N1.80, and N2.70 from the previous N1.70, N2.00 and N3.00 per share

On the volume index, FBNH led trading with 161 million shares in 395 deals followed by AIICO which traded 120 million shares in 806 deals.

TANTALIZER traded 104 million shares in 293 deals.

On the value index, FBNH topped as the securities traded stock worth N4.7 billion in 395 deals followed by ACCESSCORP which traded equities worth N1.2 billion in 759 deals.

GTCO traded shares valued at N1.1 billion in 362 deals.
