NAFDAC Seals Chinese Supermarket In Abuja Over Expired Products, Improper Labeling

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed a Chinese supermarket located at Azba Mall, Wuse 2, Abuja, for violating regulations concerning expired products and improper labeling. 

The supermarket, operated by Chinese nationals, was found to be selling items labeled solely in Chinese without English translations, which contravenes Nigerian laws. Additionally, many of the products were past their expiration dates.

Shaba Mohammed, NAFDAC’s enforcement team leader, confirmed that the agency took action following credible intelligence about these regulatory violations. 

He stated that investigations would continue to uncover how the products were allowed to enter Nigeria without proper labeling and documentation. 

Mohammed emphasized that the agency’s goal is to safeguard consumer health, as selling products without English translations and with expired dates poses significant risks. The supermarket has been temporarily shut down as NAFDAC works to further investigate the matter.
