NNPP Splits As Group Challenges Kwankwaso’s Influence Over Kano Governor Abba Yusuf

A faction within the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano, known as “Abba Should Stand On His Feet” (Abba Tsaya Da Kafarka), has emerged, urging Governor Abba Yusuf to assert his authority and resist the influence of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

The group accuses Kwankwaso of meddling in state affairs, including political appointments and project approvals, reducing Yusuf’s administration to what they call a “third term” for Kwankwaso.

This internal rift escalated after a reconciliatory meeting between Governor Yusuf and Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Baffa Bichi, ended in the SSG pledging loyalty to the governor. 

However, hours later, NNPP Chairman Hashimu Dungurawa, a Kwankwaso loyalist, suspended Bichi from the party, citing disloyalty.

The group insists that Governor Yusuf was elected by the people of Kano, not Kwankwaso, and should be allowed to govern independently.
