NLC President Joe Ajaero Vows To Honor Police Invitation

Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has reaffirmed the union’s resilience in the face of government pressure, stating that despite recent attempts to silence and intimidate the organized labor, he vowed to continue his fight for workers’ rights.

Recalling the recent detention and interrogation he faced, Ajaero emphasized that such tactics would not deter the NLC from its mission. He urged workers and union officials to remain steadfast and united in their struggle.

In a statement released on Monday, September 23, Ajaero announced that he would be honoring a police invitation on Wednesday, September 25, at the police headquarters in Abuja. This follows a previous invitation that he complied with on August 29. 

“Our strength lies not only in our resolve but also in our integrity,” Ajaero stated. “We must conduct ourselves with the utmost honesty and transparency. Our enemies may try to harm us, but they cannot break our spirit or destroy our unity.”

Ajaero also expressed gratitude to international organizations and trade unions that have shown solidarity with the NLC during its recent challenges. 

He specifically thanked the International Labour Organization (ILO), the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), and other global labor bodies for their support.
