NDLEA Seizes Tramadol Pills Worth Over N2 Billion In Gombe

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a truck carrying 2.49 million pills of tramadol valued at over N2 billion in Gombe State.

Mr. Okechukwu Nkere, Commander of the NDLEA Gombe State Command, revealed the details during a news conference on Friday.

He reported that the seizure included 30 cartons with 300,000 tablets and 146 cartons containing 2,190,000 capsules of tramadol.

The truck was intercepted at Gombe’s entry point at 8:30 p.m. on September 13, with the drugs hidden under bags of salt to avoid detection.

“Based on credible intelligence, we were able to intercept this truck transporting illicit drugs to Gombe State,” Nkere stated. 

“The drugs, worth over N2 billion, were destined for local markets and some would have ended up in Borno State.”

He praised the state government and other agencies for their collaboration, emphasizing the need for a collective effort in the fight against drug trafficking. 

Nkere also warned those involved in the drug trade to stay away from Gombe, noting that the seized substances would be destroyed and suspects would face prosecution once investigations are complete.

Lt. Col. Abdullahi Bello (retired), the State Commissioner of Internal Security, commended the NDLEA operatives for their successful operation, calling the seizure a “significant cache.” 

He reiterated that this action supports the state government’s efforts to combat drug abuse in Gombe State.
