Pager Explosions: Hezbollah Vows Retaliation, Blames Israel

Lebanon’s Hezbollah has vowed retaliation after accusing Israel of detonating pagers on Tuesday, an attack that killed at least eight people and wounded 2,750 others, including many Hezbollah fighters and Iran’s envoy to Beirut.

Lebanese Information Minister Ziad Makary condemned the pager explosions, which are used for communication by Hezbollah and others, calling it an “Israeli aggression.” Hezbollah warned that Israel would face “its fair punishment” for the blasts.

The Israeli military, which has been in ongoing conflict with Hezbollah since the Gaza war began last October, declined to comment on the incident.

A Hezbollah official described the detonations as the “biggest security breach” the group has faced in nearly a year of fighting with Israel.

The United Nations expressed concern over the developments, with spokesperson Stephane Dujarric describing the situation in Lebanon as “extremely volatile” and lamenting the civilian casualties.

While not directly addressing the blasts, an Israeli military spokesman said the chief of staff, Major General Herzi Halevi, had met with senior officers to assess the situation, stressing the need for continued vigilance.
