Dangote Refinery Rejects NNPCL’s Fuel Price Claim

Dangote Refinery has strongly refuted claims made by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) regarding the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold to the corporation.

In a statement released on Sunday, Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer at Dangote, dismissed NNPCL’s assertion that the fuel was purchased at N898 per liter.

The refinery insisted that the sale was conducted in U.S. dollars, offering substantial savings compared to current import costs.

The controversy arose after NNPCL’s Chief Spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, told newsmen that the refinery had priced PMS at N898 per liter.

This contradicted earlier reports suggesting a price of N760 per liter. Despite the discrepancy, Soneye confirmed that over 70 trucks had been loaded with fuel at the time of the statement.

Dangote Refinery characterized NNPCL’s statement as “misleading and mischievous,” aimed at undermining the refinery’s recent success in addressing Nigeria’s energy crisis.

The refinery emphasized that the pricing of PMS should be clarified by the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, established by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The refinery expressed confidence that its efforts would ensure the availability of petrol in all local government areas across Nigeria, helping to alleviate the persistent fuel scarcity that has plagued the country.
