VP Kamala Harris, Donald Trump Pay Respects At 9/11 Memorial in Manhattan

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump attended a 9/11 memorial ceremony in Manhattan on Wednesday morning.

The two had their first encounter at the debate in Philadelphia on Tuesday, but at the New York City ceremony, they shook hands when they crossed paths.

Harris was there with President Joe Biden, while Trump was accompanied by his running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio.

During the ceremony at the 9/11 memorial, Americans who lost family members on September 11, 2001, took turns reading out the names of the victims in a tribute to their memory.

Both presidential candidates for the 2024 election were present at the event. Cameras captured the moment when Kamala Harris approached Donald Trump and offered a handshake, just as she did at the debate. Trump accepted the gesture.

Attendees stood throughout the event as a mark of respect. Harris was positioned a few feet away from Trump, with President Joe Biden and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg between them.

Also present at the memorial were Trump’s running mate, JD Vance; New York Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand; New York Governor Kathy Hochul; and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a close ally of Trump.
