Rivers State On Fire: 12hrs After Burning of Assembly Complex, Lawmakers Forwards Notice Of Impeachment To Fubara

The notice of an impeachment procedure against the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has been forwarded by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The House took this decision following an emergency meeting on Monday morning in the House auditorium, where an impeachment hearing against the governor was held.

The notice of impeachment against Governor Fubara was presented by Omuma State Constituency’s Sylvanus Nwankwo, and it was signed by 24 of the 34 members.

The lawmakers accused the governor in the notice of egregious wrongdoing befitting his position.

Nonetheless, the governor should get the notice of impeachment so that the legal procedure can proceed, as requested by Speaker of the House Rt Hon. Martins Amaewhule.

Earlier on Monday, the House was presented with three items: the impeachment of Fubara, the suspension of three other MPs, and the removal of Edison Ehie as House Leader due to his alleged supervision of the burning of the Assembly Complex on Sunday night.

Adolphus Timothy from Opobo Nkoro State Constituency, Goodboy Sokari from Ahoada West State Constituency, and Victor Okoh from Bonny State Constituency are the MPs that have been suspended.

The plenary was then adjourned with no time frame set for its reconvening.

As soon as the governor’s impending impeachment was announced, supporters of the governor staged a protest outside the Complex.

Rumors of a disagreement between Fubara and his predecessor and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, may not have anything to do with the effort to remove Fubara from office.
