Nigerian singer Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, has expressed confidence that he could become Afrobeats’ first US dollar billionaire, although he insists that accumulating wealth is not his ultimate ambition.

The singer made the remarks during an interview with Ras Kwame of Capital XTRA. While responding to a question about whether he was on course to become Afrobeats’ first billionaire.

Asked whether he agreed with the suggestion, Mr Eazi said his response depended on the currency being considered.

“Depends on what currency you’re talking about,” he replied.

When the interviewer clarified that he was referring to the Nigerian naira and suggested that the singer had already attained billionaire status in the currency, Mr Eazi responded affirmatively.

On the prospect of becoming a US dollar billionaire, the singer expressed optimism that the milestone could be achieved soon.

“US dollars, you know, will come soon,” he said.

However, Mr Eazi stressed that becoming a billionaire was not his primary goal, explaining that he was more appreciative of the life he enjoys and the freedom to pursue his musical interests.

“I’m not really looking for that; that’s not the target,” he said, adding that the financial milestone could happen “anytime now.”

The singer identified creative independence as one of his most important priorities, particularly the ability to create and release music on his own terms.

“Freedom is very big to me. Freedom musically, freedom to be able to put out music freely,” he stated.

The interview also touched on Mr Eazi’s business interests, including his stake in a United Kingdom-based ticketing company, which he acknowledged during the discussion.

He was subsequently asked whether he could be regarded as Africa’s Jay-Z, a comparison he appeared willing to embrace.

“You have Africa’s Jay-Z, you know, you could do that,” he said.

Drawing a playful parallel between his marriage to Temi Otedola and Jay-Z’s marriage to American singer Beyoncé, Mr Eazi added, “Jay-Z is Jay-Z. I’m Mr. Eazi. Mr. Eazi has Beyoncé, I have Temi.”

Beyond his music career, Mr Eazi has developed business interests that have contributed to his public profile as an entrepreneur.

His latest comments highlight the growing intersection of music, business and wealth creation within the Afrobeats industry.

While expressing confidence that he could attain dollar billionaire status, the singer maintained that financial success would not outweigh his desire for creative freedom.
