Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola has criticised Desola Afod for allegedly disrespecting theatre professionals, urging her to address individuals she has issues with rather than generalising her complaints.
Toriola reacted after Desola, 44, claimed in a video that she had been disrespected at a celebrity gathering and complained about how theatre practitioners addressed her.
In a response shared online, Toriola said Desola should consider dropping the Afod surname if she believed it was attracting disrespect.
“If you think that the name Afod is giving you problems and disrespect, you can change to your father’s name or use something else like Desola Kilanko,” she said.
The actress described Desola’s reference to theatre professionals as insulting, insisting that anyone with a grievance should identify the individuals involved instead of attacking the entire industry.
Toriola also disclosed that she had previously kept quiet about issues involving Desola out of respect for her then-husband, actor Kunle Afod.
She added that she would not tolerate what she considered disrespect towards the theatre community, noting that she was also born in Agege, like Desola.
Desola and Kunle Afod reportedly separated in February 2026 after years of public speculation and recurring reports about their relationship.
