Yoruba Rap Pioneer Lord Of Ajasa Announces US Citizenship

Veteran Nigerian rapper Olusegun Osaniyi, popularly known as Lord of Ajasa, has announced that he has become a United States citizen.

The Yoruba rap pioneer shared the news with his fans on Instagram, posting pictures and videos of himself and his wife, Funmi, celebrating the milestone.

In one of the videos, Lord of Ajasa displayed his US citizenship certificate alongside the American flag before announcing his new status.

“My fans, I’m now a US citizen; you all should know. This is my new country’s flag. I’m now fighting for my new country,” he said.

The rapper also shared a photograph of himself and his wife holding the American flag, while another post carried the message, “Thank You America.”

Lord of Ajasa rose to prominence in the early 2000s and is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of mainstream Yoruba rap in Nigeria.

He became popular with songs including “Ma Yi Lo,” “Le Fenu So” and “Esha Lo Bade” and has collaborated with artistes such as 9ice, Olamide and the late Da Grin.

His announcement has added another milestone to the career of the veteran rapper, who has remained associated with the growth and evolution of Yoruba-language hip-hop in Nigeria.
