Former Actors Guild of Nigeria President, Emeka Rollas, has apologised to actress Regina Daniels, her mother, Rita Daniels, Senator Ned Nwoko and several Nollywood colleagues over comments he made during the actress’ marital crisis last year.
Rollas, in a statement shared on Instagram on Thursday, said he had reflected on how he handled the controversy and regretted the timing and platform he used to express his views.
The former AGN president had publicly commented on the dispute between Regina and Nwoko in November 2025, saying the actress “needs help” and questioning the conduct of some senior actors whom he claimed had witnessed incidents involving her.
He also criticised Rita Daniels over her involvement in an AGN leadership contest and made comments concerning Nwoko, who was then the guild’s Board of Patrons chairman.
However, Rollas said he now regretted making the remarks while the Daniels family was dealing with a difficult period.
“Sometimes, with the passage of time, we look back at our actions and realise that being right about an issue does not necessarily mean we handled it the right way,” he said.
He explained that a recent chance encounter with Rita Daniels, during which some people attempted to reconcile them, prompted him to further reflect on the controversy.
Rollas subsequently apologised to Rita Daniels and her family, Nwoko and his family, Regina, the AGN Board of Trustees and several colleagues, including Okey Bakassi, Charles Inojie, Chinyere Wilfred, Jide Kosoko, Sanni Danji, Agility and Nazareth Jesse.
“I am sorry,” he said, adding that he was not making the apology on the condition that it would be accepted.
According to him, whether those involved choose to forgive him remains entirely their decision, but he felt compelled to apologise after acknowledging that he was not proud of how he handled the situation.
Rollas noted that his views on some of the issues he raised had not necessarily changed, but said he accepted responsibility for his actions and the timing of his intervention.
He said he had chosen to move forward with “peace, reconciliation, dignity and respect,” stressing that leadership requires not only the courage to speak but also the humility to recognise when something could have been handled differently.
