Breaking: CBN Cuts Monetary Policy Rate To 23%

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reduced the country’s Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) to 23 per cent following the decision of its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).

CBN Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, announced the decision on Tuesday in Abuja at the conclusion of the committee’s 307th meeting.

According to Cardoso, the committee reviewed current economic conditions before arriving at the decision

“The Committee decided as follows: reset the monetary policy rate to 23 per cent,” the CBN governor stated.

The Monetary Policy Rate serves as the benchmark interest rate used by the apex bank to influence lending rates, inflation management and overall monetary conditions in the economy.

The announcement followed the MPC’s assessment of developments within Nigeria’s economic environment.
