Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has expelled 42 students following investigations into allegations of examination malpractice.
The affected students comprise 31 Higher National Diploma (HND) and 11 National Diploma (ND) students drawn from various institutes and programmes of the institution.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Principal Assistant Registrar, Academic Board Matters Division, Ibrahim Esin.
According to Esin, the students were investigated by the Polytechnic’s Examination Malpractice Committee after allegations were made against them and were subsequently found guilty.
He said the offences violated the Matriculation Oath taken by the students upon admission.
The Polytechnic explained that the expulsions were approved in line with provisions of its Students’ Handbook, effectively ending the affected students’ relationship with the institution.
The Institute of Finance and Management Studies recorded the highest number of expulsions with 23 students, followed by the Institute of Technology with eight.
Four students each were expelled from the Institute of Information and Communication Technology and the Centre for Continuing Education, while two were affected from the Institute of Health Technology. One student was expelled from the Institute of General Studies.
The affected students were enrolled in programmes including Engineering, Journalism and Media Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Accountancy, Medical Imaging Technology, Procurement and Supply Chain Management, and Industrial and Labour Relations.
The management also directed all expelled students to return any Polytechnic property in their possession to their respective Heads of Department or other designated authorities.
The institution said the disciplinary action followed the completion of the examination malpractice investigations and approval by the appropriate authorities.
