The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has called for a united national effort to combat terrorism and insecurity, stressing that safeguarding the country is a responsibility that must be shared by government, security agencies, communities and citizens.
Yilwatda made the call on Friday while participating in the National Citizens’ Stakeholders’ Engagement on Countering Terrorism and Insecurity in Abuja.
The engagement was convened by HRH Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, CON, the 16th Emir of Kano under the auspices of Project 774 Network and brought together political leaders, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for tackling Nigeria’s security challenges.
According to the APC chairman, the meeting came at a critical period when Nigerians must remain united against the threat of terrorism and other forms of insecurity.
He said discussions at the forum reinforced the need for a Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society approach, noting that government, traditional and religious institutions, the private sector, local communities and individual citizens all have vital roles to play in strengthening the nation’s security architecture.
Yilwatda said such collaboration would not only improve security but also foster national cohesion, promote responsible citizenship and create the conditions for sustainable development.
“It requires a united national effort in which government, communities, traditional and religious institutions, the private sector and citizens all play their part. Through a Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society approach, we can strengthen our security architecture, deepen national cohesion, promote responsible citizenship and create the conditions for sustainable development”.
He commended the Emir of Kano and other participants for providing what he described as an important platform for honest dialogue and collective action.
“The task before us is not merely to defeat insecurity, but to build a nation where peace, unity, justice and prosperity are shared aspirations,” he said.
He also pledged his support for credible initiatives aimed at advancing Nigeria’s security, stability and overall development.
