A curious and funny twist has emerged in Nigeria’s political space after reports emerged that someone registered under the name “Donald Ogunwunmi Trump” as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and also used the American president’s photograph.

While the registration itself may appear comical, analysts say it exposes deeper flaws in the party’s membership drive and highlights broader concerns about security and technology in the ADC’s registration processes.

TheMatrix Newspaper reports that the ADC has been pushing aggressively to expand its membership base through digital platforms, but the ease with which fake names can slip through raises questions about the integrity of its systems.

“If a name like ‘Trump’ can be accepted without verification, what stops multiple ghost registrations from flooding the database?” one political observer noted.

Experts argue that the incident underscores the vulnerability of Nigeria’s political parties to manipulation. Weak identity checks, inadequate digital safeguards, and poor oversight could allow fraudulent registrations to distort membership figures, influence internal party decisions, or even compromise candidate selection processes.

According to an X user, Dr Dípò Awójídé the ADC should be ashamed of itself.

“This same ADC is the one that wants to replace the APC? The ADC spokesman could not explain the ideology of the party. Now the website for their membership registration is in a mess. You can register with fake identity and get accepted. This is embarrassing. They should be ashamed” he wrote.

Another user A. Adebanji also disclosed that he registered multiple accounts with fake NINs, and wrong information.

“I just “registered 10 times on their site using fake NINs and 10 sets of wrong information. Everything went through! No verification, no checks, nothing”.

“This is arguably the most useless registration system I’ve ever seen. If they can’t verify a simple ID”.

Continuing in another post, Adebanji said he is staying up to register up to 50 members.

“ADC is officially the party for everyone, including the animals!  I’m staying up to register 50 animals on their membership site.

“I’ve already gotten a Cow, Dog, Rat, Hyena, Pig, and Elephant through.

“No NIN check, no name verification, just vibes.

“If you can register a zoo on a political portal, the party is a joke”.

Reacting in a terse statement on X to a user who called his attention to the glitches, the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi noted that the glitches would be fixed soon while still encouraging Nigerians to register.

“Thank you for your valuable feedback. We are currently in the process of integrating your suggestions.

“We appreciate constructive feedback from all members who have registered or are in the process of registering. We encourage you and everyone to also share the link (http://adcregistration.ng) with anyone interested in joining” he noted.
