Commodore Okokota Takes Over Command Of NNS SOROH

Commodore Christian Okokota has officially assumed duty as the new Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) SOROH, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The handover ceremony took place on Friday, with Okokota succeeding Commodore Omobamidele Akinbami, who had held the position since January 27, 2025.

In his acceptance remarks, Commodore Okokota expressed appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, for the trust placed in him to lead the command.

He reaffirmed his full commitment to the CNS’s vision, mission, and the broader command objectives, while praising the accomplishments recorded under his predecessor.

The new commander pledged to build on existing successes, ensure strict adherence to operational directives, and maintain heightened readiness to tackle ongoing security challenges in the region.

He aligned his priorities with the directives of the Flag Officer Commanding Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim.

Okokota called on all officers, ratings, and civilian staff to extend their full cooperation and support to enable the command to effectively fulfill its mandate.

In his valedictory address, the outgoing commander, Commodore Akinbami, thanked the personnel for their dedication and teamwork during his tenure.

He commended the Chief of the Naval Staff and urged the team to accord the incoming commander the same level of support he had received.

NNS SOROH plays a key role in maritime security operations under the Central Naval Command, particularly in combating oil theft, illegal refining, piracy, and other threats in the Niger Delta waterways.
